The Rolfing Ten-Series®

A structured, whole-body approach to Rolfing structural integration. Ten sessions and one interconnected body.

The Ten-Series is a progressive sequence of Rolfing sessions designed to work with the body as a whole, not just the place that happens to hurt, feel tight, or get your attention today.

Your body doesn't exist in isolated parts.

A restriction in your shoulder can have a relationship to your ribs. Your ribs relate to your pelvis. Your pelvis relates to your feet. And the way you move through all of it influences everything in between.

The Ten-Series gives us the time and structure to explore those relationships progressively, rather than continually chasing the symptoms, which is a common trap.

Each session has a specific focus within the larger sequence, building on the work that came before it and preparing the body for what comes next.

Why ten?

Check out this video of a client of mine going through Session #2 of the Rolfing Ten-Series. Session #2 focuses almost entirely on the feet, ankles, and lower legs.

What does it look like?

Each session within the Ten-Series is ideally spaced about a week or two apart.

Each session also has its own unique territory of your body that we explore along with certain themes/concepts, such as breath or support.

  • Session 1: Freeing the breath - loosening the structures in your torso, shoulders, and neck that might be inhibiting a full in/out breath.

  • Session 2: Organizing the foot and ankle - neutralizing the arches of the feet and the rotations going up the ankles and legs.

  • Session 3: Lengthening the sides - by freeing up the sides of your body, we allow more space for the front and back of your body to rest with ease.

  • Session 4: Working the medial line - in working up the inside portion of your feet, legs, and thighs, we indirectly relieve tension held in the pelvic floor.

  • Session 5: Organizing the front of the spine - by releasing tension held in your abdominal space and hip flexors, we allow the lumbar and thoracic spine to be more adaptable.

  • Session 6: Freeing the sacrum - in organizing the back space, hamstrings, and sacrum, we allow the body experience length and

  • Session 7: Organizing the cranium - working the soft tissues in the neck to allow the head to rest comfortable on top of your body.

  • Session 8: Integration session - typically refining and reinforcing organizational patterns in the lower body.

  • Session 9: Integration session - typically refining and reinforcing organizational patterns in the upper body.

  • Session 10: Closure to the series - bringing the body to the highest level of integration that it needs and can sustain for an extended period of time.

Who is this for?

The Ten-Series is an excellent option if:

  • You don't just want to address one isolated issue.

  • You have a complex musculoskeletal history.

  • You’ve been dealing with chronic or recurring pains that just don’t seem to go away no matter what you try- often signifying complex underlying tensional patterns in your body.

  • Or, you’re simply curious about what else is possible with how you feel in your body.

Why I rave about the Ten-Series

The thing I love most about the Ten-Series is that it’s a learning tool- not just for you, but for me as well.

Your body has a unique underlying tensional pattern that is specific only to you- from your hobbies, work routine, injury history, psycho-emotional history, the infinite subtleties of how you hold yourself. And the Ten-Series does a masterful job of thoroughly exploring and unwinding those patterns.

The ten sessions also give us enough time to bring those patterns to your awareness, explore new movement patterns, and ultimately integrate the new options that get introduced to your system.

It's less about fixing one symptom that you might be worrying about and more about digging through the source of what’s actually going on underneath.
